Lesson 5: Preparing for the Final Illustration (Basic Player)

Note:  You are watching this lesson on the alternative player. Allow the videos to buffer for a few minutes or until the grey loading bar is filled ahead to ensure uninterrupted playback.

In this lesson, students will begin preparing for their final mixed media illustration. Select two mediums—one wet and one dry—and work from a reference image of a house with a wildflower landscape.

The lesson emphasizes composition planning using the rule of thirds, sketching thumbnails, and making color choices. Students will also mix custom paint colors, experiment with brushstrokes for greenery and flowers, and refine the piece using colored pencils.

The goal is to experiment with textures and mark-making in preparation for the final artwork.
