In this lesson, students will explore painting with gouache and combining pastels, markers, and pencils to create abstract mixed media floral art. The session begins with a brief refresher on color theory followed by practical techniques for handling gouache paint.

Students will learn to mix their own colors, create various brushstrokes, and layer different media for texture and depth. This lesson emphasizes creative experimentation and intuitive painting.


Art Supplies for classwork:

• Winsor & Newton Gouache paint: Spectrum Red, Yellow Ochre, Zinc White, Permanent Green Middle, Ultramarine Blue (Find separately or consider this set)

• Paint Brushes: 1/2” Flat brush, 10 Filbert, 08 Filbert, 01 Rigger, 06 Round (find separately or consider this W&N set or this Royal Langnickel set)

• Caran d’Ache Neocolor II pastels: Rose 081, Salmon 051, Ochre 035, Dark Olive 249, Light Olive 245, Sky Blue 141, Desert Rose 042, Brown 059

• Caran d’Ache Luminance colored pencils: Ultramarine violet 630, Perylene Brown 585, 

• Tombow Dual brush pens - Pale Cherry Red 912
